Off Day Fun
A role model is a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially by younger people. A role model is regarded by others as a good example to follow. So they watch your every move and go home and practice it. They listen to every interview to pick up on who you are. They chant your name in the stadium while watching fans do the same on TV. They wonder what it is like to be in your shoes. In their eyes, you are a role model. So no matter what you do, people everywhere are paying attention.
I had several role models while growing up in Edmond, Oklahoma and they meant the world to me. One being Hakeem Olajuwon. I can vividly remember watching his games and then going to the courts to try and pull off the same moves. He gave me hope that playing in the NBA was possible for me.
Another role model would be one of my high school English teachers. Her name is Jody Terry. Even though I was not interested in the old tragedy plays, she would re-enact scenes while reading to us. She went the extra mile, doing whatever it took to get us interested in the subject. That made me appreciate her even more.
Since I am now a professional, I tend to think that I am a role model. Being a role model should never be taken lightly. Not only do you have to perform to your best ability but you have to carry yourself as such too. I love this responsibility and I know that I can change lives with maybe a smile. That is why I smile soo much. I love being able to reach out to kids/adults and give my time. Whether it is answering questions or actually playing with kids, I enjoy it all and look forward to doing more now than ever before!!!
